Count Up the Cost

Do you remember the last time you really wanted something? Do you recall how you wrestled with the thoughts of how you were going to achieve or obtain the thing you wanted? Can you imagine what life would be like if we were to always be in pursuit of everything that we see in magazines, on television or social media?

As kids we had to learn the lessons of counting up the cost. We had to give great consideration to what is most important to us and therefore we learned how to prioritize based on the resources that were available to us. Choices, decisions, and options all come with a cost. This is a tough lesson that people seem to forget when they become so laser focused to the point of obsession. The issue is not the desired thing, the issue is the detrimental results from one NOT counting up the cost. It is evident that the level of sacrifice and commitment has grown for many, but the abnormal growth is towards the wrong things. The unwise and misinformed thoughts have now placed us in a whirlwind of crisis simply because we forgot to count up the cost.

Would you be willing to sacrifice your home for the sake of owning the latest name brand fashions? Are you willing to put yourself at risk of a major medical crisis because of your unwillingness to heed the precautions given by your medical provider? People that are considered cognitively sound would never make these types of sacrifices because it is not worth the cost. It is important for us to not only count up the cost for ourselves, but we should support our loved ones to see the importance of counting up the cost. As a society we have to stop normalizing the maladaptive behaviors of impulsive decision makers and resume the life of making sound decision from counting up the cost!
